Byomkesh Bakshi’s nickname is Satyanweshi which means seeker of truth. He first appeared in the book Satyanweshi in 1932. The stories are narrated by Ajit who meets Byomkesh in the book Satyanweshi.
Byomkesh Bakshi is a thin and tall person. He loves football, smoking and tea. He has good knowledge over Bengali literature from where he quotes frequently. Unlike other detectives, he tries to make justice for victim by punishing the culprit rather than following law blindly. Unlike other detectives, he married and his wife’s name is Satyabati.
In 1936, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay stopped writing Byomkesh. After 16 years later he started writing Byomkesh again when he realized Byomkesh’s popularity.
